Lateral Partner Integration in Law Firms - new report

This week saw the launch of an exciting new report - Lateral Partner Integration in Law Firms, written and researched by me and sponsored by IntoGreat Coaching.

This unique study, based on in-depth interviews with 17 of the world’s top law firms, looks at how leading international law firms integrate the partners they hire.

Lateral Partner integration is a very complex topic and varies not just from law firm to law firm but from hire to hire, because every individual is unique and the scenario they’re going into is unique.

The main finding was that a significant proportion of hires - some firms said 20%, some, 30%, 40%, 50% or higher - are undershooting their performance targets or the expectations set when they’re hired.

This will be costing law firms a significant amount of money, but tackling it is a tricky issue (see complexity, above).

The report touches on how hires are planned for, how they are onboarded, sponsored and monitored, and tackles questions such as who ‘owns’ lateral hiring within the firm’s business support architecture and whether firms can get a real handle on ROI (Return on Investment).

Sponsors of the report, IntoGreat Coaching, is a dedicated integration coaching company set up by a former recruiter colleague of mine, Stephen Rodney, and the former International head of HR at Linklaters, Chris Lynch.

If you’d like to get your hands on a copy of the full 48 page report, please contact Stephen or Chris at IntoGreat.

If you’d like to discuss any aspect of the partner recruitment or integration process - perhaps you’re undertaking a process review, or have some questions about your own process - feel free to drop me a line.
